Hey there!

I’m Hilary Neblett (she/her), owner and therapist at Resonance Psychotherapy in Austin, Texas, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Associate supervised by M. Michelle Hawn, MA, LPC-S.

After a decade of working in the entertainment and events industry, I decided to go back to school to pursue a career more in line with my values. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling from Saint Edward’s University in 2023. Now, I feel lucky to spend my days supporting folks from all walks of life reconnect to what matters most to them.

My Presence: What Therapy With Me Is Like

My clients often describe me as warm, casual, and uplifting, with an overall “chill” vibe. I prioritize creating a relaxed and welcoming space where you can feel safe to be yourself, especially if you don’t often find that elsewhere.

I bring my humanity into our sessions and don’t pretend to have all the answers. I’m no guru or sage here to tell you what to do— instead, think of me as a guide with training and experience in navigating life’s storms, here to help you develop your own ability to anchor yourself during them.

We’ll approach topics at your pace and explore new perspectives without pressure. You can expect me to challenge you, but always with care and compassion. If I mess up—which happens sometimes—I own it and work to make it right.

Hope and optimism are fundamental in our work together. When hope feels out of reach, I’m here to help you find it. And don’t worry, you won’t find any toxic positivity here— I focus on a grounded, realistic approach that acknowledges struggles and challenges. Together, we’ll face and unpack the heavy stuff, while infusing a sense of joy and levity in the process.

My Process: The “How” of Therapy

The Consultation Call

We’ll start with a free 30-minute consultation call to talk about what you’re looking for in counseling, to answer any questions you have, and to give us a chance to determine whether or not I’m a good fit for you.

Our First Few Sessions

In our initial therapy sessions, we'll focus on understanding what brings you here and exploring key aspects of your life relevant to our work. We’ll work on getting a clear vision on what an authentic life for you looks like and set meaningful goals to get there. We'll also discuss how to measure progress, using those insights as our guide for success.

Along the Way

Throughout therapy, we’ll adjust and pivot as needed. I make it a point to routinely check in and ask a version of the question “so, how’s it going here?” and am interested in your honest answer. I trust you as the ultimate authority of your experience, and I take your feedback seriously.

If you’re a nerd for this stuff like I am (or a fellow clinician - hi!), you may also be curious about what informs the way I’m thinking about the challenges you face or the therapeutic change process in general.

While my specific approach will depend on your needs, the modalities that guide my work the most are:

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Existential Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)

  • Mindful Self Compassion, based on the work of Dr. Kristin Neff

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed parts work

  • Feminist Therapy & Body Liberation Concepts

  • For relational work, I incorporate elements of the Gottman Method and Non-Violent Communication (NVC).

My Pulse: The Human Behind the Therapist

Therapy, at it’s core, is a unique relationship between two humans. While our therapy sessions will be solely about you, sometimes my clients feel more comfortable if they know a bit more about the “me” outside of the therapy room. So, here goes…

I am a childless cat lady in my late 30’s. My cats are named Moses and Zucchini, and yes, I would be delighted to show you photos if you ask.

I also have a wonderful husband, who I met here in Austin, Texas in 2017. Please don’t tell him I mentioned our cats first.

Besides my family, music is my first and most enduring love, hence the name “Resonance Psychotherapy.” I would love to hear about the role music plays in your life, the lyrics you have tattoos of, and the bands you’ve been geeking out on lately.

I love music so much that I wanted to make it my career, and in my early 20’s I trained as an audio engineer in Nashville, TN. Over the next decade, I worked in various roles in the live event and entertainment industries and eventually became an event producer. It was exciting and fun, but ultimately not sustainable for me and all I hold dear. In other words, I have lived experience of chronic stress and piss-poor work life balance and know what it’s like to make a major mid-life change.

A few other things that I like in no particular order: frozen yogurt with rainbow sprinkles, stand-up comedy and podcasts about comedians, weightlifting and functional fitness, ‘90s action/adventure movies (I walked down the aisle to the Jurassic Park theme song), reading science/ speculative fiction, starting a non-fiction book and moving on to the next one half way through, being outside when the weather is nice, ceramics, wandering around art markets, and did I mention my cats?
